Waste Batteries
and
Accumulators
Regulations
2009

From 1 February 2010, as a distributor who supplies 32kg or more of portable batteries per year from an individual store or by 'distance sales‘ (for example by telephone, the internet or by mail order) Staples has certain obligations under the 'Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009' including the taking back of used batteries from end-users, free of charge.

DEFRA advises that we need to be explicit about where our take-back facility is situated and how end-users can access it.

To comply with this obligation Staples in the UK has put in place used battery collection boxes at all out 137 retail stores nationwide. We will ensure that any waste batteries returned within these boxes are sent to an Approved Treatment Facility for compliant disposal.
