Recycle your electricals and help Staples prevent pollution

Can I dispose of old electrical, electronic and IT goods in the bin at the end of their life?

No. They need to be recycled at your local civic amenity site which can be found through the Recycle More website and typing in your postcode.

Electrical and electronic products are especially toxic if they end up in landfill, as hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination, harming wildlife and human health.

How do I know what to recycle?

The crossed out wheelie bin symbol is now marked on items which must be taken for recycling. Since early 2019, anything that is electrical or electronic, from toys to recliner chairs, now falls into the scope of the Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive. It requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items.

How are Staples helping?

In the UK, ‘distributors’ including online retailers, must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. As a responsible online retailer, Staples have met the requirements placed on us by financially supporting the national network of WEEE recycling centres established by local authorities. This is achieved through our membership of the national Distributor Take-back scheme (DTS).
